Can Wall-E Win Best Picture?

It’s an interesting question.  Only one animated movie, Beauty and the Beast in 1991, has even received a nomination for Best Picture.  Yet, with incredibly high reviews and a blockbuster-style year that is notably short on arthouse films, it is definitely a possibility.

Wall-E Best PictureThe movie itself has many of the qualities of an Oscar-winning film.  It has excellent performances (that they’re animated is merely a detail).  There are emotional highs and lows.  It has a point that it’s trying to make without preaching too much.

Most importantly, it entertains.

We’re only half-way through the year, but it’s definitely my favorite so far.

Original Desctiption:

Even though most of Hollywood’s Oscar contenders have yet to hit theaters, all that critical and commercial affection is leading awards-watchers to ponder: Could Wall-E finally be The One?

  1. Wall-E is the best movie I’ve seen so far this year - hands down. It would be an insult for it not win even a nomination.

  2. WALL-E deserves it. It has great visuals, not to mention perfect sound design by Ben Burtt, and not to mention a beautiful music score.

But most of all, the screenplay was most beautiful, it wasn’t just about a robot looking for love, it was about the driod was struggled between emotions and duty, the emotionless robot who followed orders whether its right of wrong, the environmental devastation, and human dependency. It was detailed.

But why is it that animated films have to be discriminated? What sets it apart? I mean, WALL-E had some live-actions scenes.

Not only is WALL-E loved by critcs but by audience of all ages.

I wouldn’t count on it, but WALL-E deserves the Best Picture.

  3. I loved WALL-E, but the Oscar’s are usually motivated to make a statement in some way (often politically), regardless of who deserved the award.

So, that being said, I’m going to make an early prediction for Dark Knight for best picture with Heath Ledger getting the award for Best Actor.

Sure Dark Knight was a good movie, it may or may not be the best movie coming up, but it will have an extraordinary amount of support given the media hoopla that went on with Heath Ledger’s passing.

  4. I love to see WALL-E get nominated for Best Picture. Actually I think it deserves a win.

Also, there was wonderful sound editing and mixing by Ben Burtt, he might even deserve a Special Achievement.

And there was a beautful score by Newman. Derserves nomintaion.

Most importantly, Stanton derserves a win for Best Original Screenplay. Beautiful storytelling, beautiful originality.

But what makes those voters discriminate animated movie?

    WALL-E FOR BEST PICTURE.
