The car actually gets 235 MPG in US measurements, an error that was corrected in the story later. Either way, that’s a ton of miles to go on a gallon of gas. The car is relatively attractive in a Jetson-way with a carbon fiber body and wheels that look like something from Mad Max.

There are those who say to buy used cars because they are better for the environment than buying a new car with hybrid-level gas mileage.  At 235 MPG, it pretty much trumps that argument.

After 3 years of development, it is now way ahead of schedule. Original slated to begin production when the materials dropped in price, which was projected to become a reality in 2012, this ultra-light vehicle will draw a price tag somewhere between $35k and $50k. This sounds like a lot, but if (when) gas hits $5 per gallon or higher, getting nearly 10 times the gas mileage of an average vehicle will turn into great savings for commuters.

Plus, it looks pretty cool.
