This story might actually make a comeback later in the week as its not ‘officially’ announced until Thursday, but none the less its still of internet. Right now you can accomplish the same thing that Chrysler is doing on your own by throwing a laptop in your car with a 3G/EVDO/etc card, but having your car permanently connected to the Internet is is both cool an allows for innovation.
With a permanent connection things like satalite radio and standalone internet connected GPS’s (the dash) aren’t as relevant anymore. You can get all the functionality through other means, or the existing technologies will have to elvolve to embrace such things. There are really endless possibilities that could come of this, and I was really surprised to only see this story get dugg my myself, and the submitter. I wish Chrysler the best of luck rolling out their system, and can’t wait to see what this evolves into.
Original Description:
Chrysler wants to turn your car into a rolling WiFi hotspot where you check your Facebook profile, upload pictures to Flickr, and eventually be part of a nationwide traffic-control network.
UPDATE: As predicted, on June 26th, a buisnessweek version of this same story hit the front page of digg.

is the availability of the service away from metro areas - is it satellite based or terrestrial cell based? Auto Enthusiasts will be surely amazed with this.
